C01: Experimental and numerical simulation of combustor-plenum-interactions for pulsating combustion

Pulsating combustion leads to unwanted fluctuations of flow quantities at the compressor and the turbine. The goal of this project is to reduce these fluctuations and to minimize the losses. The project starts with an experimental and numerical investigation of generic plena to identify the dominant interaction mechanisms and to validate the numerical scheme. Thereafter, the simulations are extended to plena with complex geometries to develop concepts for highest efficiency and best performance. The best solutions are validated experimentally and integrated into thermodynamic models of the entire gas turbine.
